I used to have a hardrock in the early 90's style frame. the ones that used to be black and red with gold stripping. Gosh i loved that bike, until it was stolen from the underground garage bike rack of a friends house. Anyways finding funding from the piggy bank, and mostly a girlfriends present to me, i purchased this beauty in the XL frame and i love it. Get alot of good comments on the paint and the adjustable shox up front. Great solid bike for the me the "urban" rider. I take it to work on the weekends and around my hometown for great rides.

          Comments:

[...] Anyway, the bike perfect for me. I'm just beggining in this sport and I ride 50/50 street/trails. A little heavier than some HTs in it's class, but very sturdy. I'm 6' and 190 pounds. Easily supports me and I've jumped it over some good sized humps, hills and curbs. No damage yet. This bike handles both urban streets and mountain trails really well. Shift and brake levers work flawlessly. Forks absorb everything I've hit so far and haven't bottomed out once. Tires are more suited for dirt, but do pretty well on pavement too. Saddle is thin but surprisingly comfortable. The disc brakes do their job quite well. A little noisy compared to V-brakes, but once they wear-in, they're smooth and efficient. The rear derailer works perfectly. The front derailer is fussy, but I usually leave it on the second chainring anyway. Bottom line... It's probably the best all-around bike for under [$]. Tried a Trek 4300 Disc, Giant Yukon and K2 Zed 2.0, and the Hardrock seemed "tougher". [...] No choice but to get the Hardrock. Also, this bike is asily upgradable, but fine just the way it is. Find one for [$] or less and you've got a great deal. Highly recommended.

          Comments:

My buddy should have listened to me. He was debating between the Rockhopper (V brakes) and the Hardrock (disk brakes). The rockhopper has better fork and frame. The Hardrock disc has the trendier brakes. Always, always go for the better frame and fork over something like brakes. One can upgrade brakes but no one buys a [$] bike then upgrades the frame. You might as well just buy a new bike.Get a Rockhopper instead of this bike next year upgrade the brakes on your Rockhopper and you will have a kickin bike.
